PSC provides toy safety chemical compliance expertise to a wide range of clients including global toy brands, smaller manufacturers and trade associations in the UK, Europe, China and the US.
The company was founded in response to the need for tailored chemical safety advice as a result of the ever-increasing complexity of chemical and toy safety legislation. Our services include producing chemical safety assessments to satisfy the requirements of the European Toy Safety Directive (2009/48/EC), on-going support for manufacturers during the whole toy life cycle, and training for technical staff. The company is built on providing flexible, accurate and timely advice to its clients with a particular emphasis on the needs of small to medium enterprises.
Industry background
Our managing director and principal consultant, Eric Edmonds, has over twenty-five years experience in the toy industry working across a wide range of functions including manufacturing, supply chain and compliance. This experience includes working with a wide variety of toy types such as art and craft materials, play equipment, electrical toys and plush. During this time he has been actively involved with a wide variety of industry technical committees and working groups. As a British Toy and Hobby Association Technical Advisor and BTHA representative on the Toy Industries of Europe technical committee he is well placed to have a comprehensive understanding of the application of both current and future toy safety legislation.
Risk assessment knowledge base
Eric Edmonds has a Masters degree in Toxicology and Epidemiology from Cranfield University and occupies a unique position in the toy industry by combining academic training in toxicology with practical manufacturing and supply chain experience. He is a Registered Scientist with the Science Council and a full member of the Society of Biology. In addition he is a member of the British Toxicology Society and the International Society of Exposure Science and regularly attends scientific meetings and conferences to ensure that the advice given to clients is based on the most up to date knowledge in the field. Eric has a particular interest in the science of exposure to chemicals and is currently conducting research to investigate the exposure to children from organic substances that may be present in toy materials.
